The Bible tells us that bad company corrupts good character (1 Corinthians 15:33). There’s an old saying that says, “if you lay down with dogs you will get fleas.” There’s another one that goes “garbage in garbage out.” These line up with the Bible when it says it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out. But it’s not just the mouth. It’s what goes into a person, no matter how it goes in. It doesn’t matter if good things or bad things go into you, but if bad things come out of you, that means whatever you put into you was bad. Romans 12:2 says, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
The Bible also tells us to not be unequally yoked with unbelievers ( 2 Corinthians 6:14). With all the scriptures that I’m throwing out, there is a thread that goes through them all. What you associate with is what you become. If you associate with good things, you’ll become like those things. If you associate with bad things you’ll become like those things. The world has gotten a hold of this and put it in all kinds of business books and leadership books and personal growth books. They will tell you that if you want to be great and successful, then associate with successful people. That is a principal directly from the Word of God. No man came up with it; no devil came up with it. God came up with it.
If you want to grow up in God, grow up spiritually, then you cannot be feeding your spirit on garbage. Just like with your natural body, you cannot grow muscle and get healthy by feeding yourself junk food. You cannot feed your spirit junk food and expect to be spiritually healthy. If you want to grow up in God, see the things of God come to pass in your life, and become a great person of faith, then you cannot be feeding your spirit the garbage of the world. Too many Christians have a strict diet of the world’s spiritual food. They come to church on Sunday and for the rest of the week, they feed themselves secular music, secular TV, secular books and magazines. Then they wonder why the Bible is not working in their life. They wonder why the things the preacher is telling them from the pulpit are not working in their life. The Word of God works for those who work the Word of God. There are Biblical principles in the Bible that you have to abide by if you want the blessings of God to come to pass in your life. You cannot feed yourself the junk that produces doubt and unbelief and have your faith grow. It cannot happen. It cannot happen anymore than you planting watermelon seeds and having an apple tree grow out of it.
Our words are seeds. What we feed our spirits are seeds. If we sit in front of a TV that has junk on it all day long, we are putting seeds into our body that will produce a harvest of junk that comes from those seeds. If we feed our spirit scriptural Christian music, and scriptural preaching and teaching, then those seeds will produce a harvest of faith and the blessings of God in our life.
If you want to see the blessings of God and the promises of the Bible come to pass in your life, then you have to feed on the word of God. You have to feed your spirit those things that will cause those blessings to come about. They will not come about by feeding yourself MTV, political news, and all the other junk that the world has to offer. It is impossible. I encourage you today, if you want the blessings of God to overtake you in life, then feed on the Word of God in the areas that you want to see come to pass in life. If you want healing, continually feed on what the Word of God has to say on healing. If you want a closer walk with God, then feed on what the Bible has to say about holiness and righteousness. if you need a miracle in your life, then feed on what the Bible has to say about faith and miracles. God’s word is true and it will come to pass in your life when you get into the Word of God and feed your spirit on the things of God to build up your faith. Selah.
