Most people, even Christians, do not believe in a spiritual realm. Sure, they might believe in God, whether they can explain in any way what or who He is, doesn’t matter. But beyond that, they don’t believe much in a spiritual realm where things that we cannot see with natural human eyes exists. They might even believe in a devil, but again, beyond that – nothing. The last thing that people think about is a spiritual realm.
However, there is a spiritual realm. And this spiritual realm influences our natural realm (or world) in ways that most people don’t even understand (or believe). At this very moment, every person is being influenced by the spiritual realm to some degree. Some to a greater degree than others. That degree is up to the individual. Depending on how much they ‘give in’ to the nudging, tugging, and whispers, they will be influenced.
But there are only two different forces in the spiritual realm doing the influencing – the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Satan. The Bible is clear on the fact that the spiritual realm influences the natural realm.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12).
If we wrestle against these spiritual forces, then there is a reason why we wrestle against them. It is because these evil forces are the ones behind the problems and circumstances that we face. If this is true, and it is, then the way we have been going about life is all wrong if we haven’t been involving this realm.
Instead of trying to elect an official to change our government, we should be praying to get it to change. We should be praying about the spiritual forces behind our current officials, prospective officials, and the government as a whole. Our hope should not be in an elected official, but in the power of God. Our plans should not be solely in an election process (or this voice or that, etc) but in prayer. It is the faith-filled prayer that reaches into the spiritual realm and causes the natural realm to change. Long before we see a change in the natural realm, there was a person praying.
Long before communism fell, there were Christians across the world praying, getting in the Spirit, to cause the iron curtain to come crashing down. This is how things change, not necessarily by electing the right or wrong official, but by using the spiritual authority Jesus Christ has given to us in His name. It is by prayer that we change things.
Yes, we must do natural things, like voting, but if we do this alone, we will fail. Far too often we fail because we do things our way instead of doing it God’s way. If we would only do things God’s way, then we would be a success.
Doing things God’s way is interacting with the spiritual realm. Far too many of us do not understand anything about the spiritual realm because we live too much in the natural realm. We spend five minutes in prayer and expect the Heavens to open up. However, God does not work this way. If we want more of God, to be more aware of Him and the spiritual realm, then we must spend time with Him.
Without understanding that there is a spiritual realm and it influences our natural realm, we will miss most of what goes on in life. We will only see the natural effects of what has taken place in the spiritual. Let us all consecrate ourselves to God, to know Him, to spend more time with Him, that we may be more aware of the spiritual realm to accomplish what God has called us to do.
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. – Hebrews 11:3
While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. – 2 Corinthians 4:18
