It’s odd that even for Christians, sometimes when we hear the Word of God, and yet we still want to choose to do things our way. We choose to accept something that is contrary to God’s perfect will for our lives. In fact, I’ve heard stories of people that have flat out said “Bible or no Bible, I’m believing…” and they go on and name something so unscriptural that it would make most of us slap our foreheads at their stupidity.
As humans, we have this choice to choose to obey or not obey those in authority. We can choose to go 70mph in a 60mph speed zone. We can choose to jay walk. We can choose to not listen to our parents or teachers. We can even choose to not listen and do what the Lord says.
If the Bible tells us not to do certain things, it’s our choice whether we do that or not. Of course their are consequences for all that. Angels on the other hand don’t have that ability. They do what the Lord says, like good soldiers. They carry out His commands, His orders, His pleasures. That’s what the Bible says in Psalm 103.
Bless the LORD, you His angels, Who excel in strength, who do His word, Heeding the voice of His word. Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, You ministers of His, who do His pleasure. – Psalm 103:20-21
Like soldiers in an army, angels carry out the orders of the Lord. Those orders can be found coming from the throne room of Heaven and they can be found right in the written Word of God. Psalm 103:20 says that angels “do His [God’s] word, Heeding the voice of His word.” Notice that it does not say that they do the word of the Lord spoken only by the Lord. They are at the command of the Word of God, no matter who speaks it.
They heed the voice of His word. That means God’s word is just as powerful in your mouth as it is in His, as far as angels are concerned. There’s no difference between God giving the order personally and you giving the order that God has already given. Angels are there to help us. That’s what Hebrews 1:14 tells us.
But to which of the angels has He ever said: “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool”? Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation? – Hebrews 1:13-14
Angels are sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation. They’re not sent to minister to them, but for them. They are sent to carry out the will of the believer in the earth. They’re not sent to cause believers to win lotteries or get our of traffic. When you hear that verse, you have to think like the born again, mind-renewed child of God. The believer the angels are going to minister for are those that have aligned their will up with the Fathers. And thus, they’re speaking forth the will of God and the Word of God out of their mouth. They’re not spouting out ridiculous things that would make their mamma slap them. Take for example Daniel. You see, this didn’t just happen in the New Testament. Daniel had angels working for him in the Old Testament too. Gabriel came to help him when he was praying.
Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. – Daniel 10:12
Daniel was praying. He was seeking God’s play, do His will. He wasn’t out trying to do things contrary to God’s will. As believers, we have a mighty army of ministering spirits at our disposal. All we have to do is command them to do the Word of the Lord. Now some may disagree with this. They may think that there’s no way that God would allow His angels to be commanded by us – puny, unworthy humans. But we’re not puny, unworthy humans. People with this mindset have never put angels to work for them and the angels wouldn’t do anything if they tried it anyway. They’re too full of doubt and unbelief.
The Christian that angels work for are the ones who know who they are in Christ.; the ones that know that they have the same power that raised Christ from the dead working in them; the same ones that know their worth because the God of Heaven and Earth died for them; the same ones that speak God’s Word out of their mouth and see it work without angels because they know that their faith is working. Angels are working for those believers that dare to put them to work because they know that greater is He that is in them than he who is in the world. They know who they are as a believer because they know the Word of God and they know their God – and do exploits.
Don’t be the believer that gives in to tradition, doubt, and unbelief. Be the believer that yields to the Word, believes the Word, and does great things. Be the believer that yields to the Word of God, does the Word of God, and sees great things happen in your life. Stay with the Word and the Spirit.
